About Gilli Danda
Flick. Whack. Send it.
Gilli Danda is a browser interpretation of the traditional South Asian street game, reduced to its most recognisable two-part action. Tap the danda (stick) to pop the small gilli up off its groove, then flick from the danda through the airborne gilli to swing and send it flying. The implementation deliberately separates the lift from the strike: the first tap establishes a predictable arc, while the direction, speed and length of the second gesture determine the contact and distance. A fast, clean flick timed while the gilli is still within reach travels furthest, and the score records the best distance from the current page session in metres.
How to play Gilli Danda
- Tap the danda — it flicks the gilli straight up off the groove.
- Flick (drag) your finger from the danda through the gilli to swing.
- A fast, clean flick while the gilli is in reach launches it furthest.
- Record the highest distance you can.
Tips & strategy
- Wait for the gilli to reach the top of its pop before you flick for the cleanest contact.
- Flick quickly and straight through the gilli — speed matters more than a big drag.
- Practise the two-step rhythm of tap-then-flick until it becomes one fluid motion.
- Flick through the gilli rather than at it. Ending your drag past where the gilli sits keeps the swing accelerating through contact instead of stopping dead on it.
