About 2048
Slide. Merge. Chase 2048.
2048 is the sliding number puzzle that quietly eats afternoons. Every swipe shoves the whole grid one way and any two touching tiles of the same value merge into one worth double, so 2 becomes 4, 4 becomes 8, and on up towards the 2048 tile. A new tile appears after every single move, which is the catch: the board is always filling, and one careless swipe can scatter your carefully stacked numbers into a dead position.
How to play 2048
- Swipe (or use arrow / WASD keys) to slide every tile in one direction.
- Two tiles with the same number merge into one worth double.
- A new 2 or 4 appears after every move — keep the board from filling up.
- Reach the 2048 tile to win, then keep going for the highest score.
Tips & strategy
- Pick one corner and never let your biggest tile leave it — almost every high score comes from an anchored corner strategy.
- Swipe in only three directions and keep the fourth as an emergency. If you anchor bottom-left, avoid swiping up until you genuinely have no other move.
- Keep your row next to the anchor in descending order so merges cascade along it instead of stranding a large tile between two small ones.
- Merge the small tiles first when the board gets tight; clearing 2s and 4s buys you space, while chasing a big merge too early leaves clutter everywhere.
